The Faculty of Law at the University of Jordan launched this morning, Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the activities of the Internal Competition in International Humanitarian Law, as part of the College’s initiatives aimed at enhancing applied learning and developing students’ legal skills.
The competition seeks to promote students’ understanding of the principles of international humanitarian law, and to develop their abilities in legal analysis, advocacy, and practical simulation of international courts. It aligns with the College’s vision to integrate practical aspects into legal education and to strengthen students’ research and litigation skills.
Students were divided into eight groups — half representing the prosecution and the other half the defense — in preparation for simulated trial rounds that mirror international court proceedings.
This competition comes as part of the College’s preparations to select the team that will advance to the final round, scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Samir Shamma Auditorium. The top-performing students will be chosen to represent the Faculty of Law in the National International Humanitarian Law Competition, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at the end of October, with the participation of public and private universities from across the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Professor Basem Malhem, Dean of the Faculty of Law, emphasized that this competition reflects the College’s commitment to encouraging students toward excellence and innovation, and to bridging theoretical legal knowledge with practical application. He noted that it provides an outstanding opportunity to enhance students’ skills in legal research, analysis, and memorandum drafting, marking another step toward linking academic study with real-world legal practice.
